No 58 Paul Nash

The Menin Road, Paul Nash, 1919 IWM ART 2242

“I’m not allowed to paint dead men because apparently they don’t exist.” Paul Nash

Yesterday, 4th August was the 99th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. Paul Nash was one of the official war artists who went to the Western Front. Unlike the quote used a few days ago, which has a number of sources and references,  I can only find the above quote in a Daily Telegraph article from last week about an exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.
