No 20 Picasso and Banksy

As a special treat since it’s the weekend, today we have a two-for-one offer! Firstly Picasso’s original:

And now Banksy’s version:

There are several versions of Picasso’s original quote and very little evidence of a) what he did actually say and b) if he did say the quote at all. Several other peoples’ names have been suggested for the original statement other than Picasso. Perhaps, Picasso stole the original quote!

One thing I do know is that the quote does not apply to stealing my chips at lunchtime, Jeni! Stealing chips does not make you a great artist. Producing beautiful monoscreenprints might though!

  1. I like it. Off to pinch something now 🙂

  2. That’s a great post! The banksy version is hilarious.
I just got myself the book ‘Steal like an artist’. Loved the thought that stealing from one artist is copying, but stealing from a lot of artists that you love is part of a process… to get you inspired to make your own stuff.
